As business professionals we’re always on the search for how to achieve and do more in our day. We’ve all thought from time to time, if only there were more hours in a day, days in a week, weeks in a month we could get everything done right? But could we? If we critically looked at what we do every day and how we go about doing it, there is no doubt we’d find capacity that has been locked away. But how do we go about unlocking it and what’s your way? The answers may surprise you!!
Power Up your Potential - 7 Practical Strategies
Strategy No. 1 – Block Out Time
We’ve been writing down tasks, completing some of them, and adding more to lists for thousands of years. It seems like a rational way to accomplish the things one must accomplish – and it probably was, beginning from when humans made their first mark on cave walls.
But now, the world is faster, more connected and much more complex. We have appointments to keep, children to pick up from school, yoga classes, football games, Facebook and Netflix. There’s shopping to be done, roads to be driven and parties to attend. With all of this going on, for ourselves and everyone else in our lives, simply writing down everything we have to do and hoping we squeeze it in between everything else we have to do, is just not enough.
The to-do list fails because it makes no distinction between tasks that may take fifteen minutes and tasks that may take three hours. It also assumes that these tasks will magically be completed in the amount of unscheduled time available on your calendar.
So, how do we ensure we get things done? One effective strategy is time-blocking your daily schedule.
Keeping a schedule is not a new concept for successful people. Chances are you already keep a schedule of meetings, appointments, vacations and other important events. Some of these events you allocate an hour to, some half a day.
We’ll dive deep into your busy day and hunt down those things that distract and waste time. We’ll show you how to structure your day to minimise distraction and get your productivity soaring.
Strategy No. 2 – The Secret Sauce Recipe for Change
Very few people hurtle towards change with the excitement and enthusiasm of a child at Christmas and we’d all love to know a secret sauce recipe to help us and our teams manage change more effectively. Well it just so happens that we think this is super important too and will step through the process of change and what it takes to come through the other side unscathed.
Strategy No. 3 – The Right People in the Right Jobs
This is pretty much our No. 1 rule there is no way you will be efficient in your daily tasks if you’re completing tasks that are not in your skill set, fundamental to your role or crucial to your position. We’ll investigate the power of delegation and how to utilise delegation to get more done in your day, even if you don’t have anyone to delegate we’ll show you how this strategy can still work for you.
Strategy No. 4 – Stuck Time
The vast majority of our day can be spent liaising, organising and communicating with others. Our stuck time strategy is all about making this time work for you. We’ll show you how to take back control of your day and use this strategy to expertly manage those you regularly communicate with in an organised and structured way.
Strategy No. 5 – Critical Thinking
We’ve all heard the saying the only constant is change and as professional service leaders we need to bring our best selves every single day, but we can’t do that unless we’re critically evaluating how we go about things and looking at ways to improve. We’ll walk through the three (3) steps of critical thinking that will instantly transform your outlook for good and get you effectively managing change.
Strategy No. 6 – Don’t set yourself up to fail
It sounds completely counter intuitive but yet more often than not we find ourselves in a position where we have set ourselves up to fail, sometime without even realising it. We’ll help you explore why this happens for you and then show you how being aware of and working with this strategy allows you to unlock potential you didn’t even know was available to you.
Strategy No. 7 – Improve your emotional intelligence
Soft skills or emotional intelligence is the most highly sought personality trait for professional services people today, rating even higher than technical skills or knowledge and there’s very good reasons for it. Being able to effectively communicate, manage change and reassess goals on the fly are key attributes for navigating our global business world and it all starts with you.
